Discuss electrical supply while clarifying a quotation, not after unpacking the delivery. A product name, a familiar-looking plug in a photograph or a description such as “for the consulting room” does not identify the exact configuration. Procurement needs a concise, agreed set of information that can be passed to the person responsible for the premises. This article concerns documents and supplier questions, not instructions for connecting equipment.
Start with the exact configuration
Request the manual and data for the proposed variant, rather than a general advertising sheet for the whole range. Keep the full designation, configuration code and list of electrical options in the correspondence. A photograph of another unit can help formulate a question, but cannot replace confirmation of the ordered configuration.
The official Midmark 204 guide presents voltage, current and frequency in a separate configuration-specific table. [1]
This is an example of how documentation is organised, not a recommendation of that product or confirmation that FORMED stocks it. Do not transfer figures from this guide to other examination tables or devices. Similar commercial names do not make specifications interchangeable: the enquiry concerns only the agreed variant.
Record the parameter and its unit together
A useful enquiry sheet has separate fields for rated voltage, frequency, and the current or power specified by the manufacturer. Copy the parameter name and unit as written in the document; do not independently convert one quantity into another. An unclear marking is better retained as an open question than filled with an assumption.
Record the source beside it: the manual page, a photograph of the exact variant’s rating label, or the supplier’s written response. If sources disagree, request clarification before confirming the order. The newest file is not necessarily the one applicable to the required variant. Model, document revision and applicability all matter.
Discuss the supplied parts and location, not a DIY installation
Ask separately which cable, plug or external power supply is included. “Complete set” without a parts list does not help the receiving employee establish whether the delivery is complete. Do not assume that an adapter, extension lead or backup supply can be selected simply from the appearance of a connector.
Give the competent specialist the proposed equipment location and a list of nearby devices. Suitability of the existing electrical installation, protective measures and permitted auxiliary equipment must be assessed using the particular product’s documentation and the premises’ requirements. This article does not prescribe permitted loads, wiring arrangements or electrical installation procedures.
Five lines to agree before ordering
- The model and exact configuration code being ordered.
- Supply parameters, their units and the source of the information.
- Supplied items: cable, plug, external supply and any specified options.
- Who assesses the intended installation location and receives the documentation.
- Outstanding questions and the decision before which they must be resolved.
Do not mark the final line “complete” simply because the supplier has sent a photograph. The response must resolve the actual uncertainty. If the supplied configuration changes, check the dependent entries again rather than retaining the old specification out of habit.
Make responsibilities clear before delivery
Preparation should produce agreed documents and an identified responsible person, not a self-issued permission to energise equipment. Keep the responses with the order so that procurement, receiving staff and the technical specialist work from the same information. Browse the wider equipment catalogue if needed; confirm supply conditions and parameters individually for the selected model.
